Il Palmento is a charming 5-star relais with trulli, swimming pool and in-house restaurant immersed in an extraordinary landscape just a few kilometers from Alberobello and the most important villages of the Itria Valley such as Locorotondo, Cisternino and Martina Franca.
The structure consists of about 30 late 18th-century trulli that, in the past, gave life to the “jazzile,” a kind of small village equipped with every service in which people lived together as a community.
Today, each ancient housing unit has become a suite named after an indigenous grape variety of the area (Primitivo, Negroamaro, Verdeca, Fiano, Trebbiano, Bianco d’Alessano etc.), as if to pay homage to the ancient wine route that runs very close to Locorotondo, still renowned for its wine cellars guardians of the tradition of the “bianco di Locorotondo” and for its historic center listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy.

Four short stages that run along the rural lanes not far from your accommodation and let you to discover the small country districts of San Marco, Lamie di Olimpia, Cocolicchio and the famous hamlet of Locorotondo. By following these easy routes suited for everyone, you could discover the authenticity of the Murgia dei Trulli area among olive grooves, almond trees, graze lands and stone wall. Thanks to the short distances, these itineraries are perfect for a morning or afternoon trip, well matching with the others daily activities. - ALBEROBELLO ≅ 25km
A short and not too demanding stage that, from the enchanting country roads of Itria Valley, takes you to the most famous town in the area: Alberobello. The world capital of the trulli, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1996, has since increased in popularity because of the enchantment of its fairytale old centre with the white pinnacles on the stone roofs of its unique houses. You will have time to explore it from top to bottom before returning to your own trulli! - ALBEROBELLO – BARSENTO ≅ 45 km
Alberobello, the unique city of trulli, will be only the final reward of the day. Take the time to save all the colours and scents of the Itria Valley in your memory, but above all, take a step back into the past with a stop at Barsento, a naturalistic and archaeological site nestled between the towns of Alberobello, Castellana, Putignano and Noci. On the promontory that gives the name to this settlement of Messapian origin (the toponym means “that is tall, strong”), there is an enchanting abbey church of the twelfth century, built with the same dry wall technique used for the trulli. - LOCOROTONDO COUNTRYSIDE ≅ 30 km
A full immersion in the most authentic countryside of the Itria Valley. Riding your bikes, you will wander around Locorotondo, without losing sight of the unmistakable landscape where man and nature seem to live in harmony: the dry-stone walls separate the quiet streets from the fields and the orchards and the roofs of the trulli stand out among ancient olive trees. - CASTELLANA GROTTE COUNTRYSIDE ≅ 50 km
A stage designed for those who want to cover more distance and face more challenging climbs, exploring the countryside around Castellana Grotte. As you cycle to the top of the hills, your gaze will take you to the valley and even to the sea. About half way along your route, you will reach the edge of the town of Castellana. If you feel like it, you can even get off your bike and take a break here, before tackling the second half of the route and discovering new and unexplored roads. - CISTERNINO COUNTRYSIDE ≅ 35 km
Cycle through centuries-old olive trees and vineyards of native varieties, such as the delicious Verdeca, from which you get a white wine that you cannot miss tasting during your stay; and naturally, surrounded by trulli, which make this area of Puglia famous all over the world. Cisternino will be the turning point of this route: this ancient village perched on the southeast edge of the Murgia dei Trulli, is appreciated not only for the characteristic architecture of its historic centre, with churches and medieval and Renaissance palaces, but as well for great food. The carnivores among you will fall in love with its “fornelli”, butchers where you can choose the meat that they will prepare right in front of you. Do not miss the famous “bombette” (bread rolls of meat). Even vegetarians, however, do not have to worry; the products of this land provide plenty for all tastes! - AQUEDUCT CYCLING PATH ≅ 30 km
A stop to get acquainted with the entertaining ups and downs of the Itria Valley countryside, and above all with its unmistakable landscape, with the inevitable trulli set between orchards, vineyards and olive groves. The light, colours, scents and sounds of the Itria Valley will remain in your heart once you return home. The icing on the cake will be the ride along the Ciclovia dell’Acquedotto Pugliese, the most important cycle route in the region that, as the name implies, runs along the maintenance path of our aqueduct that is more than one hundred years old. - ALBEROBELLO – LOCOROTONDO ≅ 30 km
A stop that allows you to visit two of the most beautiful villages in the area, starting with Alberobello, a city that no longer needs introducing. Following is Locorotondo, with its elegant ancient village on top of the hill that allows you to enjoy a 360 ° view of the Itria Valley, as the toponym suggests. After a stop in one of the many cafes and restaurants that offer a high quality of local food and wine, you will be content to return to your trulli with its swimming pool at end the day. - LOCOROTONDO – MARTINA FRANCA ≅ 30 km
In little more than thirty kilometres you will pass from quiet country roads far from traffic, to the never too noisy vitality of two of the small towns at the top of the Itria Valley triangle. You will arrive in Locorotondo from two different points on the way and back to explore and fall in love with its narrow streets, its bars and restaurants and the panoramic view of the valley. Another stop of the day is the elegant Martina Franca, renowned for the baroque architecture of its historic centre. Can you choose your favourite between the two? - LOGGIA DI PILATO – MONOPOLI – SELVA DI FASANO ≅ 55 km
For those of you not afraid of grinding kilometres we recommend this stage, which will lead you to the all the way to the sea. You will first spot it while you are riding on top of the hills. You will pass by one of the most scenic spots in the area: the Loggia di Pilato, a rise where you will see fearless paragliders fly over the countryside between Alberobello and Monopoli. It is here that you will see the Adriatic coast only a few feet from your wheels, cycling along the ancient walls of the city. Take a break in one of the delightful bars in the historic centre, before tackling the climb that, through the lush Selva di Fasano, will take you back to the luxurious trulli where you are staying. - ALBEROBELLO – NOCI ≅ 50 km
Start early in the morning to take advantage of two very pleasant stops: the first to visit the fabulous historic centre of Alberobello, Unesco site and World Trulli Capital.
